Another rant from Richard

Young People and Alcohol Abuse

The Chief Constable of Cheshire, an excellent policeman with lots of experience, suggests that the age for alcohol consumption should be raised to 21. I totally understand his logic and the extreme difficulties of his officers in dealing with drunken youths, but we send our 18-21 year olds into war armed with some of the most lethal weapons in the world, and they are allowed to vote at 18, so we trust them in these two areas but apparently not with alcohol.

This is surely a parental problem not another government excuse for more legislation. If every parent looked after their own the world’s problems could be solved.

With the government’s propensity to legislate, how about banning potential parents from having a child until they have passed a parental NVQ? Old fashioned parenting is what is needed and this of course is a long term solution.
