The bad, the ugly and the GOOD! In goal setting
Goal setting is an immensely powerful process, but for your business and personal life. The purpose of setting goals helps you choose where you want to go in life to achieving something. Whether it be a mountain to climb or a small foot hill. By knowing exactly what you want to acheive, you know where you have to focus your efforts. You’ll also quickly spot the distractions that would otherwise lure you from your course.
The established way of making goals more powerful is to use the acronym SMART
SMART usually stands for:
- S Specific
- M Measurable
- A Attainable
- R Relevant
- T Time-bound
The way in which you set goals, strongly affects their effectiveness. The following five step guidelines will help with setting effective goals.
- List your desire
- Select a goal
- Define your target
- Set a deadline
- Carry a reminder
Setting goals at the correct level is a skill that is acquired with practice, they should always be stretching but realistic. However remember the belief that a goal is unrealistic to achieve may be incorrect so keep challenging yourself.
Goals can be perceived as bad thoughts becuase very often, you do not reach them. Now, if you’re one of those people who do not achieve things, who cares? Think of goals as a journey. If you don’t reach your destination, isn’t it better to get close? posted by Ed Aldridge

That was a great idea to use the word smart to make goals more powerful. Also the 5 step guidelines are very helpful. I am going to start carrying a reminder with me all the time. That is a great tip. Thanks.
