LEADING A HIGH PERFORMING TEAM
OK. You’re a Manager and you are responsible for the performance of every individual within your team. What are you going to actually do?
It may say ‘Manager’ on your business card, but do you want to ‘manage’ your people, or do you want to ‘lead’ them? Which is best? Which delivers the results?
Managers often organise their teams and instruct individuals what they want them to do to deliver their business goals.
Leadership is more difficult to define. It is more inspirational and it is about motivating people to deliver the best they can. Good leaders understand what motivates each of their people and they understand that we are all motivated by different things. They are comfortable using a variety of styles and techniques to get the best from their people.
Successful leaders in 21st century businesses understand that financial results come from understanding HOW to motivate the intellect of their staff, rather than merely organising their activities.
How you lead is driven by the needs of individuals within your team. So good leaders are able to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in their approach and they are able to quickly diagnose the needs of people and apply the most appropriate leadership style.
